A full curriculum and comprehensive professional learning program, easy to implement, that engages students in a wide range of visual art projects inspired by the life and work of world-famous artist Domingo Zapata.

A 15-session curriculum, plus everything teachers need to run it.

cei arts education is pleased to present DOMINGO ZAPATA ART SCHOOL, a full curriculum and comprehensive professional learning program that engages teachers in an exciting program that is easy to implement and engages students in a wide range of visual art projects as they are inspired by the life and work of Zapata. The program sparks students' creativity and imagination through the inspiring life and work of world-famous artist Domingo Zapata.

There are versions for Grades K–2, Grades 3–5 and Grades 6–8, all of which include a full curriculum along with professional learning workshops, PD office hours, coaching and modeling, and a virtual Guest Artist visit by Domingo Zapata. DOMINGO ZAPATA ART SCHOOL was developed in partnership with Sussman Education and is fully aligned with Visual Art and ELA standards and skills.

This 15-session curriculum introduces students to the inspiring and imaginative world of art through an exploration of the life and work of Domingo Zapata. This curriculum celebrates the creative spirit and instills in young people that they have a voice and can express themselves and effect change in the world — through the power of art.

In this curriculum, students learn art skills, techniques and concepts and create a wide range of artworks including drawings, collages and paintings. This curriculum also strengthens literacy skills through expressive writing exercises and social emotional learning (SEL) skills.

Professional learning support

  • Professional learning workshops

    Two (2) two-hour virtual sessions to train teachers in the curriculum, prior to implementation.

  • Project resource library

    Full access to an online library of project modeling videos of all curricular art activities.

  • Office hours

    Two (2) one-hour virtual sessions at which teachers can either participate in a Q&A or engage in one of the curriculum's hands-on projects.

  • In-school coaching sessions

    Two (2) three-hour in-person coaching and modeling sessions during which teachers receive one-on-one support with implementation.

Guest artist visit

Guest artist visit with Domingo Zapata

A 45-minute Zoom visit with the world-renowned artist Domingo Zapata. During this visit, Zapata will share stories about his childhood and adult life, his inspirations, and show his art. Students will have an opportunity to speak with Zapata and ask him questions.
