Students need more than academic stimulation to ensure their educational needs are being met. Co-curricular programming is a holistic practice that can further develop classroom curricular content and ensure student success.
CEI’s partner school, Mathematics, Science, Research and Technology Magnet High School in Queens, hosted its 2025 MAST Empowerment Day, a college readiness program designed to provide students with hands-on engagement activities with professionals in high-performing careers. This unique co-curricular activity serves as an effective high school intervention tool that incites college readiness.
CEI’s Dr. Eutsay implemented this schoolwide event by collaborating with Queens-based organizations, higher education institutions, and professionals from diverse career industries. The Empowerment Day included over 50 guest speakers representing the fields of aviation, engineering, law, nursing, dentistry, psychology, and more. The professions were selected by students using a student-interest survey. In addition, the program provided college readiness workshops for parents to engage with CUNY financial aid representatives, New York Life financial managers, and NYC human resource advisors. Overall, this event helped to ensure students and families were holistically prepared for college and career success.
