In a powerful step toward student-centered healing and expression, one of CEI’s many community partner schools, Mount Hope Centennial School 28 in the Bronx, has become the first elementary school to pilot the “I See Me” art therapy program.
Under the leadership of Principal Christopher Lothian and CEI Community School Director Elise Banegas, this initiative is opening new pathways for emotional and social growth, and resilience in young learners.
“I See Me” is not just an art program, but is also a safe space for students to explore their identities, process emotions, and build healthy coping strategies. Recognizing that traditional supports may not always impact every child, this initiative uses creative expression to explore self-awareness and healing. “This is what meaningful, student-centered work looks like. We are leveraging the power of partnerships to make a lasting impact!”
By introducing this kind of early intervention, the Mount Hope Centennial School is laying the foundation for stronger mental wellness and deeper academic engagement, exemplifying the importance of nurturing the whole child.
