CEI Students Connect the Arts with STEAM and More!

This year, CEI Arts Education has fully expanded its programs to all art forms — visual art, music, dance, drama and spoken word! All programs teach academic content, including all STEAM subjects.

Among the many programs implemented citywide, students of PS 188 in the Bronx thrived in their Percussion program led by CEI Teaching Artist Ricardo Nigaglioni, in which they explored rhythm and technology as they created original compositions. Through hands-on exploration of percussion instruments and digital music tools, students learned how beats, patterns, and timing form the foundation of music.

Students at PS 209 brought their imagination to life during a Pop-Up Book program led by CEI teaching artist Karina Ruth Cunningham. Through hands-on lessons, students created vibrant, three-dimensional books that showcased their creativity. In Queens, students of PS 66 Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, worked with CEI Teaching Artist Natalie Katz as they embraced our Literature Through Hip Hop program which brought language skills to life through dance.

Among the professional learning programs implemented, CEI Teaching Artist Mollie Roth led a series of workshops with art teachers of Icahn Charter Schools that focused on integrating math into their art rooms. Teachers engaged in hands-on activities and collaborative discussions exploring effective strategies to teach math skills and concepts in visual arts projects.

CEI Arts Education does not just address the “A” in STEAM, but programs can align with science, technology, engineering and math, based on the needs of each school and student population.
