Full STEAM Ahead! Students Create Their Own Video Games

This spring, the CEI Bronx Innovation Center at the Leaders of Tomorrow School 370 was buzzing with creativity and excitement as all 8th-grade students participated in an immersive 8-week Artificial Intelligence (AI) and coding program. Through CEI’s innovative curriculum, students learned the fundamentals of coding and applied their new skills to design and build their own video games.

The program, part of CEI’s broader mission to prepare students for success in a tech-driven world, was more than just fun and games. Students were introduced to key programming concepts, graphic design, game physics and math, all within a collaborative and supportive environment. By the end of the unit, each student had a playable, shareable video game—many proudly showcasing their creations to peers, teachers, and families.

More importantly, the program helped demystify technology. For many students, this was their first experience with coding, and it changed how they saw themselves—as creators, innovators, and future leaders in STEM fields.
